Student Switch Off
Whilst I lived in student halls, I was an Eco Ambassador for the National Union of Student's Student Switch Off Project.
The purpose of the Student Switch Off is to encourage students to reduce the amount of energy they use, in order to help the environment and save students money, by encouraging energy saving practices.
During the Student Switch off, I was trained to give practical advice to help reduce energy usage, such as using lids on saucepans, and turning off lights. In addition to this, I worked with the NUS to carry out recycling audits, and advising students of the facilities available for recycling both in halls and the local area.
My efforts throughout the year lead to my student halls, Deanery winning the in-university halls competition for energy saving, with the halls being rewarded with an Ice-Cream party courtesy of Ben and Jerrys'!
